Are you an experienced Social Worker skilled in family assessment, fostering regulations, and permanence planning? Join South Tyneside's specialist Connected Carers Team to facilitate stable, long-term placements for children within their family network. The Opportunity: Locum Contract. This is a Full-Time, Ongoing Locum Contract working 37 hours per week in South Tyneside. The role offers a highly competitive pay rate of £28.29 per hour, reflecting the specialist nature of the work.

Job Responsibility:

  • Undertaking complex and detailed viability assessments and full Regulation 24 (Temporary Approval) assessments of prospective Special Guardians
  • Preparing comprehensive and high-quality Special Guardianship Reports for the Family Court
  • Assessing the long-term support needs of approved Special Guardians, including financial, therapeutic, and contact support, and coordinating packages to ensure placement stability
  • Working closely with the Fostering Team to manage the transition where connected carers are approved as Family and Friends Foster Carers
  • Ensuring all work is compliant with the Children Act 1989, SGO Regulations, and relevant Fostering regulations

Requirements:

  • A recognized professional qualification in Social Work
  • Current registration with Social Work England (SWE)
  • A minimum of 2 years post-qualified experience, ideally within Fostering, Permanence, or a specialist Kinship/Connected Carers Team
  • Proven experience in writing and presenting analytical, court-ready reports (e.g., SGO Reports, Form C)
  • Strong commitment to achieving permanence for children and excellent direct work skills with both children and adult family members
