Provides professional social work services to patients and their families; collaborates with hospital staff and community social services resources relative to the psycho-social problems of patients; participates in formulating procedures and policies of the Division of Social Service; and participates in educational and research programs, including the orientation and training of new staff and students.

Performs psychosocial assessments
Collaborates with ED and inpatient physician, nursing and Community Health Nursing staff in developing an interdisciplinary care and/or discharge plan
Provides social work interventions to patients and their families
Provides appropriate assessment and intervention services for children and adults suspected of being victims of abuse, neglect and/or domestic violence
Notifies the inpatient social workers of admitted patients
Notifies the Social Work Administrator on call of potential non-acute inpatient admissions
Provides consultation to other ED staff about psychosocial issues and resources
Provides consultation upon request to other hospital units
Develops and maintains knowledge of hospital and community resources
Notifies SMH Pediatric consultant of all possible cases of abuse or neglect
Documents all activities in the patient's ED chart
Provides coverage services that are requested during the absence of co-workers
Performs other duties as assigned
Participates in ED social work staff meetings
Participates in social work supervision/consultation
Participates in required activities of the Social Work Division and Hospital
Participates in social work tasks and committees as assigned
Requirements:
Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited social work graduate program with relevant experience
Must obtain New York State licensure within 18 months from date of hire
