The School Social Worker provides comprehensive school social work services to students, families, and school staff, addressing social, emotional, behavioral, and environmental barriers that limit student success. The School Social Worker is a member of a solution-focused, student-centered multidisciplinary team supporting inclusive practices and a positive school climate.
Job Responsibility:
Provide direct and indirect psychological counseling services to students (individual and group)
Respond to referrals from administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, Student Support Teams, and CSE
Contribute to special education and Section 504 evaluations and planning
Collaborate with school teams to develop and implement intervention and behavior support plans
Assist families in accessing community-based mental health, social service, and support resources
Participate in CSE meetings, contribute to IEPs/504 plans, and monitor progress
Provide crisis intervention and support school safety planning as needed
Support school-wide social-emotional and mental health initiatives and positive school climate efforts
Maintain documentation in compliance with NYSED, IDEA, Section 504, Medicaid and FERPA requirements
Requirements:
NYS certification as a School Social Worker (or eligible)
Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW)
Experience in a school setting
Training in trauma-informed practices, MTSS/RTI, and behavior interventions
Strong collaboration, communication, and counseling skills
Ability to work effectively in a solution-focused, student-oriented team
Organizational and documentation skills
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered practices
