Job Description

Gateshead Council is looking for a passionate and resilient Social Worker to join our team, delivering vital support to children and families. This unique role blends both short-term and long-term interventions, allowing you to provide continuity of care and build meaningful relationships with the families you support. Your focus will span across Family Help and Child Protection, managing a varied caseload that includes taking complex cases through the Public Law Outline (PLO) process when required.

Job Responsibility

  • Deliver high-quality, child-centered interventions across both short-term assessment phases and long-term support plans
  • Assess risk, formulate robust protection plans, and deliver early, targeted intervention through the Family Help framework
  • Manage cases entering the Public Law Outline (PLO) process, preparing high-quality court statements, care plans, and giving evidence when necessary
  • Work closely with partner agencies (education, health, police) to ensure a holistic approach to safeguarding and family support

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work
  • current Social Work England (SWE) registration
  • Proven post-qualifying experience in Child Protection, Family Help, and managing cases within the court or PLO framework
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
  • excellent report writing
  • ability to engage effectively with children and families in crisis
