Job Description

Are you a highly motivated and experienced Social Worker passionate about safeguarding children and promoting the well-being of families? We are seeking a dedicated professional to join a dynamic Children and Families Social Work team in Edinburgh. This is a challenging and highly rewarding role where you will manage a high volume of complex and high-risk child protection assessments and casework, making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children and their families in the city. Job Responsibility

  • Carrying out a high volume of timely, thorough, and analytical Child Protection Assessments across diverse family structures and circumstances
  • Managing a challenging caseload that includes complex and high-risk child protection cases, from initial referral through to statutory intervention and review
  • Preparing and presenting comprehensive reports for Children's Hearings and Sheriff Court, and providing expert testimony as required
  • Conducting precise and evidence-based risk assessments and implementing robust safety plans to protect children from harm
  • Working closely with Police Scotland, Health colleagues, education providers, and third-sector agencies to coordinate effective, multi-disciplinary interventions

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
  • Current SSSC registration as a social worker
  • Significant post-qualification experience in a statutory Children and Families setting, with a proven track record of managing complex child protection caseloads
  • Expert-level knowledge of relevant Scottish legislation, including the Children's Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 and the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968
  • Exceptional ability to gather, analyse, and synthesise complex information under pressure to inform professional judgments
  • Demonstrated emotional resilience and ability to maintain professional effectiveness when dealing with highly distressing and challenging situations
