This role isn't just about managing a caseload; it's about providing high-quality, trauma-informed interventions for children at risk and helping families navigate their most challenging moments.
Job Responsibility
Leading investigations and assessments for children on the Child Protection Register
Preparing high-quality reports and providing expert testimony for Children's Hearings and court proceedings
Working closely with Police Scotland, NHS Lothian, and education providers to create robust safety plans
Utilizing evidence-based interventions to support families dealing with domestic abuse, substance misuse, and mental health challenges
Requirements
A degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
Current SSSC registration as a social worker
Significant post-qualification experience in a statutory Children and Families setting, with a proven track record of managing complex child protection caseloads
Expert-level knowledge of relevant Scottish legislation, including the Children's Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 and the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968
Exceptional ability to gather, analyse, and synthesise complex information under pressure to inform professional judgments
Demonstrated emotional resilience and ability to maintain professional effectiveness when dealing with highly distressing and challenging situations
