This post is focused on the core statutory duties of Children's Services, primarily handling Child in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP) cases, often proceeding to Care Proceedings (LAC) where necessary.
Job Responsibility:
Conducting comprehensive Section 47 enquiries and completing robust multi-agency assessments to determine risk and need
Developing, implementing, and reviewing Child Protection Plans and Child in Need Plans, ensuring they are focused on achieving timely and sustainable positive outcomes
Preparing high-quality evidence, presenting clear and concise reports to the court, and being a key professional witness in care proceedings
Building effective working relationships with children, families, and partner agencies (e.g., Police, Health, Education) to promote positive change
Holding a diverse and challenging caseload, managing risk effectively, and ensuring compliance with all statutory guidelines and timescales
Requirements:
A recognized professional qualification in Social Work (e.g., CQSW, DipSW, BA/MA in Social Work)
Current registration with Social Work England (SWE)
A minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience in a statutory Child Protection or Referral & Assessment setting
Demonstrable knowledge of relevant legislation (Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children)
Proven ability to complete high-quality reports, assessments, and court documentation
Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and understanding of the impact of trauma on children and families
