We are seeking compassionate, dedicated, and resilient Social Emotional Support Assistants to join educational settings across the Burgess Hill area. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people who may experience social, emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges, helping them to engage positively with learning and achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs, and external professionals, you will provide both one-to-one and small group support, creating a safe and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Job Responsibility
Provide tailored emotional and behavioural support to pupils within the classroom and around the school
Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people
Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and social skills
Assist in implementing individual support plans and behaviour strategies
Promote positive engagement with learning and school activities
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, carers, and external agencies
Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
Contribute to creating an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment
Requirements
Experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, youth work, or support setting
A genuine passion for supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Patience, empathy, and a calm, professional approach
The ability to build positive relationships and manage challenging situations effectively
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Nice to have
Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, autism, ADHD, trauma, or behavioural needs
Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Youth Work, Health & Social Care, or a related field
Team Teach, Mental Health First Aid, or behaviour support training
