We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Social Emotional Support Assistant to work with students who require additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health needs. This role is based within an inclusive educational setting in Littlehampton and plays a vital part in helping students thrive both academically and personally. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to provide tailored interventions that promote emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and engagement in learning.
Job Responsibility
Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs
Build trusting, supportive relationships with students to encourage positive outcomes
Assist in the development and delivery of personalised support strategies and behaviour plans
Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and coping strategies
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff
Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and wellbeing indicators
Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Requirements
Experienced in working with children or young people with SEMH needs (preferred but not essential)
Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient
Strong in communication and relationship-building
Able to respond positively to challenging behaviour
Passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning
Ideally holds (or is willing to undertake) relevant safeguarding and/or behaviour support training
Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
Experience in SEMH, SEND, youth work, or care settings
Understanding of trauma-informed practice
First Aid and safeguarding training
Nice to have
