Job Description

Our Oil & Gas client in Aberdeen are looking for a Senior Development Engioneer to join them on an initial contract basis, until the end of 2026. This would be inside IR35 PAYE. The Senior Development Engineer is a key position in the Concept Engineering team providing support across both the operated and non-operated portfolios. The role is responsible for leading the technical and strategic work required during the early phases of project development, with a focus on identifying the optimal development pathways for the companys portfolio. The role will be expected to work closely, and collaboratively, with internal company supporting functions such as asset leads, subsurface, wells, commercial, cost and planning teams ensuring that all aspects of the scope have been suitably addressed.

Job Responsibility

  • Ensures all activities are planned and executed in alignment with relevant business policies, particularly with respect to HSE and ESG matters
  • Demonstrates effective communication and consistently embodies core values of Accountability, Collaboration and Agility
  • Champions adherence to the management system and project delivery framework, including governance and assurance protocols
  • Work closely with Head of Concept Engineering and the Project Engineer to deliver on the department’s strategic objectives
  • Understand the likely technical, regulatory and commercial challenges for each opportunity under consideration and ensure the identification of the optimal development concept
  • Co-ordination of all activities to ensure robust technical delivery within the agreed cost and timelines including, as relevant, the management of any support being provided by third parties
  • Regulatory engagement as required with particular focus on the development of suitably robust Concept Select Report for submission to the NSTA
  • Focal point for the delivery of opportunities through the relevant business Project Stage Gate
  • A managed handover to the delivery team at the appropriate phase, typically from Define onwards
  • Provide input to business’s Business Planning process
  • Development and management of tools and methodologies to allow consistent screening of opportunities across the full portfolio
  • Maintain database of concept options
  • Functional support, monitoring and evaluation of relevant Operator led activities across the non-operated portfolio
  • Deputise for Head of Concept Engineering when required
  • Contributes to broader company activities on an ad-hoc basis

Requirements

  • Previous relevant front end concept development experience
  • Appropriate experience in a technical/commercial/economics environment, within the oil and gas industry
  • Experience in the development and management of cost estimates and schedules
  • Strong technical understanding of oil and gas processes, design engineering, codes and standards, process safety, risk based decision making, quality assurance and compliance
  • Good working knowledge of infrastructure/developments in the UKCS and wider upstream business
  • Involvement in project assurance / stage gate processes
  • Knowledge of UK offshore regulations and guidance
  • Experience of managing multiple assignments and working to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, interpersonal, written and presentation)
  • Degree qualified in engineering, project management, or a related field
