Syntech Recruitment are partnering with a leading electronics manufacturer seeking a skilled Surface Mount Technician (SMT) to join their production team in Andover. This is a fantastic permanent opportunity for a detail-oriented technician to work within a high-precision environment, supporting critical sectors including Aerospace, Medical, Defence, and Automotive.

Job Responsibility

  • Operating and maintaining SMT assembly lines and automated systems
  • Performing line setups, including loading feeders and preparing pick-and-place machines
  • Interpreting detailed build documentation, parts lists, and assembly drawings
  • Conducting visual inspections (pre- and post-reflow) to ensure component placement accuracy
  • Monitoring production output to identify and rectify defects early in the process
  • Using inspection tools and microscopes to verify solder joint integrity
  • Maintaining accurate records of production runs and quality control checks
  • Ensuring a clean and safe working environment by adhering to ESD and health and safety protocols

Requirements

  • Proven experience within an electronics manufacturing or SMT production environment
  • Confident operating automated machinery (Pick & Place, Reflow Ovens, or AOI)
  • Strong technical literacy with the ability to read and interpret assembly drawings
  • Solid inspection capability, including component identification and use of hand tools
  • Quality-focused mindset with excellent attention to detail
  • Reliable and team-oriented approach, comfortable working a late-shift pattern
