The skilled laborer will support the operations of the construction project by carrying materials, spotting equipment during operation, using tools for bolt up, performing manual excavation/backfilling using shovels, applying coatings and rock shield to underground pipe, and operating small equipment at the direction of management. The position will also complete all other duties as assigned by the Leadmen, Foreman, Supervisor, and/or Superintendent.
Job Responsibility:
Support the operations of the construction project by carrying materials, spotting equipment during operation, using tools for bolt up, performing manual excavation/backfilling using shovels, applying coatings and rock shield to underground pipe, and operating small equipment at the direction of management
Performs general repair and maintenance work
Functions independently, or as part of a work crew on all projects and tasks
Receives work orders and determines equipment, materials, tools and supplies required per job site
Ensures proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, materials, and vehicles utilized per work site
ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe use and operation of equipment, tools, materials, and vehicles
Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems
Represents MEC in a positive and professional manner in the community
Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies
Maintains a clean and organized work area
Operation and routine maintenance of equipment and vehicles
i.e. trucks, digging, trenching equipment, and other equipment as required
Loading and unloading various equipment, chemicals and supplies at worksites and store areas
Performs other duties or special projects as requested related to the area of responsibility
Must be available to work overtime and “on call” duty as scheduled
Requirements:
3+ years of experience as a laborer working on industrial piping facility construction projects
Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors and co-workers
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, machines, equipment
Ability to learn and gain knowledge
Ability to follow work orders or receive instructions
Ability to adhere to Safety policies and procedures
High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required
Safeland Certification Preferred
OSHA 10 Certification Preferred
Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Ability to stand, stoop kneel, squat, climb, or sit for long periods of time
Ability to sit up to and including 6 hours in a standard issue office chair
Ability to withstand exposure to computer screens and cellular telephone screens
Ability to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location to another on the job site
Ability to visually see equipment operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses)
Ability to execute repetitive movements of the feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in performance of work
Ability to lift up to 50 lb. objects occasionally and to carry to up 50 lb. objects occasionally
Ability to adapt to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure to sometimes adverse weather conditions
Ability to remaining calm during emergency situations and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident
Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week including weekend assignments and holidays as required
