Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Site Manager to oversee the Section 278 works associated with a new care home development in Henfield. This is a 6-month contract focused on the highway modifications, site access, and external infrastructure required for the project. We need a site-based manager who understands the specific demands of S278 delivery, including tight coordination with the local authority, managing live traffic interfaces, and driving subcontractors to hit handover deadlines.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage the day-to-day construction of highway access, kerbing, footways, and associated drainage or services
  • Lead on-site groundworks and surfacing gangs to ensure production levels and quality meet standards required for adoption
  • Act as the primary point of contact for local highways inspectors and streetworks teams
  • Enforce strict health and safety standards on site, ensuring full compliance with RAMS and Chapter 8 traffic management requirements
  • Maintain accurate site diaries, track progress against the 6-month programme, and handle technical queries

Requirements

  • Proven track record managing Section 278 highway schemes or major external works packages
  • SMSTS, First Aid, and a valid CSCS card are mandatory
  • An NRSWA (Streetworks) Supervisor ticket is highly preferred
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage subcontractor performance and maintain positive relationships with local authority inspectors

  • Organize and develop procurement activities for materials that has to be purchased locally
  • Guarantee continuity between the completion of Construction and pre-commissioning to optimize Project schedule timing
  • Establish and check reporting for Head Office and, according to the Project Manager’s directives, to Client
  • Organize any valuable action to prevent interruptions to erection activities, to reduce delays in work schedule, and bring costs back to budget levels
