The Site Assessor plays a critical role in the success of Buffalo Solar’s commercial rooftop solar projects. This position is responsible for conducting detailed site assessments and gathering the field data necessary to support accurate system design, engineering, and pricing. The quality of the site assessment directly impacts the accuracy of our proposals, the reliability of our designs, and the overall customer experience. This role requires strong technical observation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate closely with design and engineering teams. Regional travel to project sites throughout the Northeast is required based on project needs.
Job Responsibility:
Rooftop & Structural Assessment: Access commercial rooftops to measure usable space and document obstructions
Evaluate roof type, condition, access points, and safety considerations
Capture detailed photo documentation of rooftop conditions and structural elements
Identify site constraints that may impact system design or installation sequencing
Electrical & Infrastructure Documentation: Locate and document service panels, distribution panels, transformers, and metering equipment
Record service size, voltage, and configuration details relevant to interconnection
Capture clear photos of equipment nameplates, panel schedules, and electrical layouts
Flag potential interconnection considerations for design and engineering review
Documentation & Data Integrity: Complete standardized site assessment checklists thoroughly and accurately
Provide reliable field measurements, sketches, and layout information
Upload organized photo documentation promptly after each site visit
Ensure assessment packages are complete and directly usable by the design team
Post-Assessment Collaboration: Participate in post-site assessment review meetings with Design and Engineering
Communicate field observations, constraints, and recommendations clearly
Provide practical field insight to support accurate quoting and system configuration
Serve as the “eyes on site” for internal stakeholders throughout project development
Safety & Professional Conduct: Follow company and OSHA safety standards at all times while on site
Utilize required PPE and fall protection on commercial rooftops
Maintain a professional presence at client facilities and with site contacts
Requirements:
Comfortable working at heights and on commercial rooftops
Strong attention to detail and measurement accuracy
Basic understanding of electrical systems (preferred)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally
