This position sits in our Experience & Engineering business unit. We primarily deliver large-scale website design and build projects, combining our skills in developing future-ready technical solutions with our expertise in creating beautiful designs to help clients including Nikon, London Marathon Events and END. Then the role of (Senior) Shopify Architect at DEPT® might be the perfect fit. In this role, you’ll be responsible for defining the architecture and implementation of advanced Shopify setups – headless or classic, local or global. You’ll bring your knowledge to projects, pitches, pre-sales opps and our platform strategy, working closely with developers, UX designers, strategists, and client service teams. You will work with the Growth to Architect solutions where clients move from Legacy technologies to Shopify Plus solutions which are in many cases composable but also fully Native solutions as well.

Job Responsibility:

  • Design complex Shopify architectures – from as-is and to-be architectures including all the ancillary systems in an enterprise architecture (PIM, ERP, CRM, Data Warehouse, 3PL, Payments, data modeling and theme structures to API integrations and middleware layers
  • Advise clients and Growth teams on technical decisions and translate business requirements into scalable, future-proof solutions
  • Lead implementation and provide technical direction to interdisciplinary project teams
  • Evaluate and integrate new Shopify capabilities (e.g. Agentic Commerce, Shopify Functions, Hydrogen, Oxygen) and proactively drive innovation within the team
  • Document best practices, help evolve our Shopify standards, and mentor other developers
  • Support pre-sales activities, assess technical feasibility, and help identify the best solution for each client

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience developing with Shopify and the broader Shopify ecosystem (Liquid, Storefront API, Admin API, etc.)
  • Previous experience building Shopify themes from scratch or can fully remodel an existing theme to work for a clients brand
  • Understand the composable and native approaches to Shopify and when each makes sense for a client
  • Familiarity with headless commerce architectures and modern frontend stacks (e.g. React, Vue)
  • Experience with complex commerce projects and enjoy taking ownership from discovery to delivery
  • Able to think strategically, can zoom out to see the big picture, and zoom in to solve deep technical challenges
  • Comfortable in client-facing situations (Discovery, Pre-Sales, Pitch, Project demo) and value collaboration across disciplines
