St Margaret’s Hospice Care has a fantastic opportunity for a Shop Manager to join our team in Somerton. You will join us on a permanent basis and in return, you will receive a salary of £20,685.60 per annum. This is a 30‑hour per week, part‑time role, worked across two days. Flexibility is essential, as you will be expected to work additional hours from time to time to support shop cover, particularly during holidays, sickness, or busy periods. By joining us you will quickly become part of a great Retail Team that we are proud to say consists of over 700 dedicated individuals and volunteers. The team’s commitment, skills, passion, and energy combine to deliver significant income, enabling our clinical colleagues to deliver their services to nearly 5,000 people across Somerset.

Job Responsibility:

  • Be responsible for the day‑to‑day running of a busy and well‑established store
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a team of staff and volunteers
  • Work as part of a team to drive sales and maximise profit to support our vital hospice services
  • Create a positive shopping experience for our broad and loyal customer base
  • Maintain and enhance the store’s performance, identity, and reputation within the local community
  • Support the Area Manager with recruitment, training, and development of the team

Requirements:

  • Have experience in a management role, ideally within the retail industry
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and high standards of customer service
  • Positively demonstrate how you manage, develop, and motivate a team of staff and volunteers

  • Utilize SGS’s maintenance management system (MTC Pro) to schedule and track all maintenance, inspections, and compliance tasks for regional assets – including facility, vehicles, trailers, vessels, life support equipment, generators, underwater video systems, etc. – and maintain accurate logs and photographic records to verify task completion, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance.   • Reconcile maintenance expenditures and CAPEX accounts on a monthly basis in coordination with the General Manager and Regional Accounting, maintaining budgetary control
  • Take a hands-on approach to leadership by actively participating in maintenance and repair tasks as needed. Lead by example in the shop and field, providing coaching and training to team members to ensure work is performed safely, correctly, and efficiently
  • Assign and/or perform routine maintenance on marine diesel engines (e.g. oil changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments)
  • Diagnose and repair issues in diesel engines, propulsion systems, control systems, and hydraulic systems
  • Conduct sea trials to verify repairs and ensure vessels are fully operational and seaworthy
  • Retrofit or upgrade engines and equipment per manufacturer guidelines and industry standards
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed, parts used, and diagnostic results for each service or repair in MTC Pro
