Job Description

The Shipping / Logistics Manager is responsible for the efficient and timely completion of all operations within the shipping and receiving department. This position is deemed 'safety sensitive' due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee's co-workers, and/or the public at large.

Job Responsibility

  • Schedules and expedites freight by truck to and from subcontractors and job sites
  • Oversees maintenance and inventory on company owned trailers
  • Negotiates rates with outside carriers
  • Occasionally books inbound loads
  • Supervises daily operations of shipping clerk and truck drivers
  • Adheres to all company safety and OSHA regulations
  • The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in shipping/receiving
  • Must have excellent mathematical, communication, organizational and supervisory skills and the ability to prepare a budget
  • Must have general knowledge of structural shapes
  • Must be able to pass certification for operation of forklifts and overhead cranes
  • Must have familiarity with AISC requirements regarding marking/placement of materials and a working knowledge of Federal/State D.O.T. rules and regulations
