The Shift Operating Engineer will be responsible for the safe management, operation, and maintenance of the steam plant in accordance with the TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) Act, 2000.
Job Responsibility:
Safe management, operation, and maintenance of the steam plant in accordance with the TSSA Act, 2000
Operation of the high-pressure steam boiler plant, air compressors, steam distribution system, condensate recovery system, wastewater handling, and process plant equipment
Preventative maintenance and breakdown repair of utility and process plant equipment
Chemical treatment of the steam, condensate, and wastewater systems
Operation and maintenance of the plants fire suppression systems
Monitor utility system equipment using a distributed control system
Follow standard operating procedures when carrying out routine duties
Respond to emergency scenarios involving fire, HAZMAT, and EMS at the plant site
Return safety critical plant equipment to operation after production upsets
Complete preventative maintenance work orders assigned by the maintenance planner
Issue work permits for employees and external contractors
Ensure accurate records are maintained for matters that may affect the safe management, operation, and maintenance of the steam plant, utility system, production plant, and safety equipment on site
Provide recommendations for improvements to equipment, operations, training, workflows, etc
Assist other departments of the plant in troubleshooting operational issues
Assist maintenance or production departments as part of their regular duties
Complete computer-based training modules and in-person training activities as required
Using Microsoft office products to input data into spreadsheets, create word documents, communicate using Outlook and Teams, and other computer-based software
Actively participate in site safety program
Requirements:
Minimum Grade 12 education
Valid Ontario 4th Class Operating Engineer’s License OR Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A), Industrial Electrician (442A) Electrician Construction and Maintenance (309A) OR 2 Years experience as a process chemical operator
Willing to pursue 4th class OE training
Willing to pursue certification through millwright apprenticeship as required
Oral and written proficiency in English and Math
Experience operating compressed air, condensate, fire suppression, and water treatment systems
Acceptable level of maintenance experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial plant equipment
Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize tasks
Ability to effectively work as part of a team and independently with little supervision
Must be flexible to take on new duties as required

Nice to have:
Experience with computer-based maintenance management systems such as SAP
