Acts as a resource to employees and students, which includes training/orienting and providing day-to-day work direction
Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of work, monitors productivity, maintains appropriate staffing levels, directs efforts and provides guidance on more complex issues
Assists with human resource responsibilities, which may include interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, resolution of employee concerns, and employee morale
Assists in interpreting department policies and procedures, and advises and updates staff on procedural changes
Monitors and coordinates the workflow of the department
Answers and appropriately handles telephone calls
Assists with inventory and maintains supplies and/or equipment

Obtains specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times
Receives and sorts specimens
Packages and tracks specimens for transport
Ensures completion of specimen collection functions according to protocol
Ensures that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing
Resolves specimen identification and/or requisition problems and clarifies orders
Accepts specimens from a variety of internal and external customers
Responds to additional specimen procurement requests
May perform limited testing under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA),1988 guidelines according to established policies and procedures
Runs quality control checks
Instructs students in phlebotomy, data entry and specimen processing functions
Requirements:
High School Graduate
Typically requires 3 years of experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function
Demonstrated ability to lead a group of employees
Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications
Keyboarding and typing skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good listening and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees
Demonstrates a willingness to work a flexible schedule, which may include working an alternate site or shift assignment
Outreach Based: Current driver's license granted by the state of residency with a driving record that meets Aurora fleet safety standards and proof of automobile liability insurance
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job
Must be able to sit, stand, walk and bend the majority of the workday
Must wear appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns and eye and face protection as needed
Must be able to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner
