Job Description

Maui Humane Society is an open-air animal shelter for cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, and other animals. We provide veterinary and routine care and help surrendered animals find a new home. We also provide humane law enforcement services, education and outreach, programs to retain pets in their families, and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. Our team is resilient, compassionate to animals, creative problem-solvers, and dedicated to do what it takes to get the job done. We're excited to welcome you as our new Shelter Director.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee Animal Intake, Pathways and Care including goal setting, budget development and overall effectiveness of these areas
  • Primarily responsible for managing our population to our resources in setting and maintaining standards for our capacity of care
  • Coordinating animal intake from humane enforcement, veterinary emergencies, and community surrenders, in true management of our animal population
  • Work with our outcomes team and provide direction to our pathway coordinators taking those resources into consideration in decisions, both individual to the animal and for the overall population

Requirements

  • Supervisory experience with budgetary responsibilities
  • Experience in animal welfare
  • Experience managing capacity for care
  • Experience in making euthanasia decisions
  • Experience with shelter software (PetPoint)

Nice to have

  • Degree in higher education or certifications /trainings in animal welfare
  • Experience in an animal shelter, especially open admittance shelter or public shelter
  • Leadership experience in animal welfare
