The purpose of the Men’s Shed Volunteer role is to create a welcoming, social, and purposeful space where residents, especially men, can connect, share skills, and enjoy hands‑on activities that spark meaning and camaraderie. Through woodworking, tinkering, tool‑based projects, conversations, and shared hobbies, volunteers help foster a sense of belonging, support emotional wellbeing, and encourage residents to stay active and engaged.
Job Responsibility:
Support hands-on activities such as woodworking, simple repairs, painting tailored to older people's abilities and interests
Create a relaxed, social environment where male residents feel comfortable connecting, chatting and sharing stories
Share skills and hobbies, whether it's woodworking, crafting, fixing things or any practical wisdom older people may enjoy
Spark conversation and camaraderie, help older people feel part of the community
Requirements:
Basic practical or handyperson skills and being comfortable with simple repairs and general 'shed' activities
Reliability, consistency and commitment
Ability to build genuine connections with older people
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
