The 1UL Europe SHE Manager has overall responsibility for managing Personal and Process Safety, Construction Safety, Security, Health, Industrial Hygiene & Environmental improvement activities to achieve excellence within the European geography. These sites include all factories, office buildings, virtual offices, R&D centers, distribution centers, field sales and merchandizers. They are responsible for all Unilever employees, contractors and third-party suppliers across the end-to-end supply chain including any decentralized businesses. The SHE Manager works across the matrixed organization to deliver SHE technology, tools, and work processes to help clients across the businesses, functions and geographies excel in SHE performance. The role also have responsibility for overseeing legal SHE compliance of all sites in the geography. Unilever has robust external and internal commitments for protecting people and the planet and the SHE community facilitates progress against those targets. Success is determined by a strong SHE culture in the geography.
Job Responsibility
Lead the regional SHE agenda by setting priorities, driving a strong safety culture, and contributing to global leadership discussions
Manage and develop the regional SHE team of 6 individuals, ensuring capability, clarity, and consistent delivery across markets
Oversee risk management and governance processes, staying ahead of emerging issues and ensuring alignment with global standards
Ensure full legal compliance across all countries, working closely with site leaders and Legal to implement new regulatory requirements
Review SHE performance, investigate incidents, provide actionable insights, and drive preventive actions across the region
Support integrations and major change initiatives, balancing business needs with risk, cost, and resource considerations.
Requirements
10+ years’ senior experience in SHE, covering both Occupational & Process Safety and Environmental management
Advanced, business‑level English with excellent written and verbal communication
Strong multi‑country / regional experience
ability to lead across diverse cultures and regulatory environments
Strong strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate risks, define prevention strategies, and lead transformation in SHE culture
Proven experience leading and developing teams (approx. 6 direct reports), including coaching, capability building, and performance management.
Nice to have
Exceptional communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate complex SHE topics clearly and confidently
Demonstrated experience working in consulting, supply chain, or factory/manufacturing environments
FMCG background preferred
Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% across multiple countries.
