Job Description:

This role is offered on a part time basis of 20 hours per week, this means that candidates interested in working part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis. Part time - up to 20 hours per week worked between Monday to Friday to meet service need (plus Saturday mornings on rotation once trained, every 1-2 months). An exciting opportunity has arisen for a current Sexual Health Adviser to further enhance sexual health provision provided by Swindon Sexual Health Department.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver, support, advice, information, education and health promotion to patients attending the sexual health department, including those diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections
  • Provide specialist support to clinical colleagues for patients with more complex needs
  • Coordinate the management, delivery and follow-up of positive results
  • Assess psychosocial needs
  • Offer crisis intervention to patients facing sensitive or challenging circumstances
  • Work across other sites as service needs dictate

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing (Registered Nurse First Level)
  • CQSW / Diploma in Social Work
  • relevant degree in psychology, health, science, social sciences, health promotion or education
  • Substantial post qualification professional experience
  • Experience of working within a sexual health service or related clinical setting
  • Demonstrable counselling skills with patients, delivered face to face and/or remotely
  • Experience of delivering sexual health education and health promotion to individuals and groups
  • Proven experience of effective multi-disciplinary team working
  • Experience of assessing and managing safeguarding concerns involving young people and vulnerable adults
  • Experience of delivering high standards of patient centered care
  • Experience of working with individuals presenting with diverse and complex needs
  • Experience of working in a complex healthcare environment
  • Current UK professional registration

Nice to have:

  • A counselling qualification at certificate level
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification relevant to the role e.g. a MSc in counseling, health promotion or public health
  • Sexual and reproductive health BASHH competencies
  • Previous experience in a Health Adviser role
  • Experience of teaching, training or lecturing
  • Experience of working under patient group directions (PGDs)
  • Working knowledge of legal and ethical frameworks governing confidentiality in Sexual Health services
