Job Description:

We are looking for a Settlement Coordinator to join our clients team in New York. In this role, you will oversee the distribution of settlement funds, manage related records, and liaise with both clients and colleagues to ensure accurate and efficient disbursements. This role requires a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills.

Job Responsibility:

  • Coordinate the distribution of settlement funds to clients and all parties involved
  • Review settlement agreements and confirm accurate disbursement amounts as per client agreements
  • Maintain detailed records of all disbursements and ensure proper documentation in the firm's system
  • Communicate with clients to ensure they understand the disbursement process while providing timely updates
  • Work in conjunction with the settlement team and attorneys to procure required signatures, releases, and documentation
  • Ensure adherence to all legal, financial, and ethical standards during the disbursement process
  • Assist in creating and managing disbursement journals and related records
  • Troubleshoot issues related to the distribution of settlement funds

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field (preferred)
  • Prior experience in a legal or settlement coordination role, ideally within a law firm as a bookkeeper or accounting clerk
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Familiarity with settlement processes, client disbursements, and legal compliance
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex processes for clients
  • Proficiency in using legal and accounting software to manage disbursements and records
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with utmost discretion and professionalism
