Job Description

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking an experienced ServiceNow Software Engineer – Platform Operations to manage the technical aspects and development of the ServiceNow environment to join our Global Digital Services team based out of our Stevens Point, WI or Boston, MA office locations. This newly created position supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and high-performance ServiceNow solutions that enable digital workflows across the organization. The candidate should demonstrate broad technical knowledge of ServiceNow products, such as ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, and SecOps, with a focus on platform architecture, governance, and automation. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing integrations with external systems using REST and SOAP APIs, ensuring best practices in CI/CD for ServiceNow code deployments, and applying advanced security controls for data protection. You will contribute to the optimization of workflow orchestration, monitoring performance metrics, and supporting automated incident resolution strategies. Experience in scripting languages such as JavaScript and Glide, as well as familiarity with ServiceNow Discovery, Service Mapping, and Event Management modules, will be highly valued. The successful candidate must also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define standards, troubleshoot complex issues, and deliver innovative solutions aligned with business objectives.

Job Responsibility

  • Administer and configure the ServiceNow platform including user interfaces, workflows, reporting, integrations, etc.
  • Develop new applications, components, interfaces, workflows and automations within the ServiceNow platform using JavaScript, REST API, and web services
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand business requirements and translate them into technical designs and solutions
  • Create documentation for new and existing solutions including application architecture, data flows, technical designs etc.
  • Manage platform upgrades, patching, and performance tuning
  • Monitor system health and proactively address issues to ensure high availability and reliability
  • Establish and enforce platform standards, development guidelines, and governance models
  • Stay current with ServiceNow releases and emerging capabilities
  • Identify opportunities to enhance user experience and streamline workflows through automation and AI

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with ServiceNow platform engineering in a large enterprise environment
  • Proven expertise in multiple ServiceNow modules and custom application development
  • Strong understanding of ITIL processes and enterprise architecture principles
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) and Certified Application Developer (CAD) required
  • additional certifications (e.g., ITSM, ITOM, HRSD) are a plus
  • Experience in financial services or other regulated industries
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS) and integration with ServiceNow
  • Familiarity with scripting and IaC languages (JavaScript, GlideScript, Powershell, Terraform) and web technologies (HTML, CSS)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
