The Service Engineer provides technical engineering support for the maintenance of Horizon Air’s aircraft for their specialty area or in support of specific ATA (Air Transport Association) chapters. As an individual contributor, this role, as part of the Engineering department, works with a team to establish process improvements for preventative aircraft maintenance procedures and reliability which support operational performance goals in the interest of safety, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance. This role requires an unwavering commitment to safety and compliance, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Job Responsibility
Under the direction of the manager, develop repair, alteration, and maintenance specifications and provide engineering assistance to all stakeholder teams
Prepare and issue Engineering Orders (EO), Fleet Campaign Directives (FCD) and Engineering Authorizations (EA) for accomplishment by the applicable maintenance department, ensuring that these documents follow all regulatory and company requirements
Provide input into preventative maintenance procedures and reliability improvements in the interest of safety, cost reduction, and fleet performance improvements
Provide technical expertise to Maintenance Control and technicians on AOG or problematic aircraft
Provide engineering assistance to stakeholders through analysis of aircraft in-service difficulties
Review OEM and regulatory documents and make recommendations for implementation
Monitor out-of-service aircraft, delay reports, watch items, and minimum equipment list (MELs) for any follow up corrective action
Make recommendations for certain ATA chapters to the subject matter expert
Become familiar with part interchangeability and configuration
Become familiar with relevant FAA 14 CFR regulations
Analyze data to develop project plans for accomplishment of fleet reliability initiatives, including business case proposals for financial approval of expenditures (Intermediate)
Liaise with Inflight, Flight Ops, Planning, Materials and Maintenance departments to accomplish project plans (Intermediate)
Develop presentations for the monthly Reliability Review Board (Intermediate)
Validate project plans on-site with maintenance technicians to ensure work instructions are clear and accurate. Assume full ownership of assigned project plan (Intermediate)
Research and analyze technical data and modify existing company technical data, as required (Intermediate)
Review monthly reliability report for long term reliability trends and develop corrective action plan (Intermediate)
Collaborate with other airline departments when engineering action is requested (Intermediate)
Is considered owner of assigned ATA chapters as subject matter expert (Senior)
Serve as a mentor to newer employees (Senior)
Consider the strategic connections between assigned areas and other related elements in execution of duties (Senior)
May be assigned as an owner to supplemental programs with the expectation to work directly with regulatory authorities and industry working groups to achieve goals (Senior)
Serve as a representative of the company at industry activities, steering committees, and may act directly to promote the goals of the Engineering organization (Senior)
Requirements
Bachelor's degree with a focus in aerospace, mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline, or two years of engineering or related experience, or four years of aircraft maintenance experience, in lieu of the degree

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
2 years of aviation engineering experience or 4 years of aircraft maintenance experience (Intermediate)
4 years of aviation engineering experience or 8 years of aircraft maintenance experience (Senior)
Nice to have
Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, operating policies, and procedures
Working knowledge of Aviation safety standards and safe operating practices, Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), and all appropriate maintenance and airworthiness requirements of CFR Parts 1, 21, 25, 43, 45, 47, 65, 91, 119 and 121
