Job Description

We are currently recruiting Service Engineers, to ensure fleet availability and performance by providing technical support, maintenance expertise, and engineering insight across rolling stock operations.

Job Responsibility

  • providing technical support to continually improve availability and reliability of locomotives / rail fleet including fault-finding, modifications, troubleshooting and regular maintenance activities
  • Daily review of rail fleet performance to ensure reliability targets are met
  • Interface with the customer as well as design/product engineering teams for maintenance and
  • Provide technical support to customers, working closely with design and engineering teams
  • Conduct maintenance inspections against defined scopes, including fault finding and troubleshooting
  • Lead failure investigations, including root cause analysis (RCA), and communicate findings and recommendations
  • Develop, review, and continuously improve maintenance strategies, plans, and technical documentation
  • Manage equipment non-conformance reports, including technical assessment and resolution recommendations
  • Analyse condition monitoring data to identify emerging faults and recommend preventative actions
  • Support commissioning and testing activities, including technical review and approval of documentation
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across maintenance, reliability, and asset performance

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering – Mechanical, Electrical or similar
  • Proven experience in rolling stock, rail, or heavy asset environments. A similar fleet performance role in a Passenger rail environment is accepted also.
  • Knowledge of Reliability engineering principles such as Reliability Centred Maintenance, Asset management, Continuous Improvement, Corrective Maintenance, Root Cause Analysis

  • Ideally a minimum of HNC in an engineering related discipline or an academic background in finance/economics or legal with in-depth experience supporting or working within a technical engineering department

  • Ideally familiar with basic procurement processes in the UK rail industry, including competitive tendering, approvals processes and safety certification. Support is available from the procurement department, especially for competitive tendering of high value contracts
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to assess complex engineering requirements and communicate needs with both internal and external stakeholders. Having a background in engineering would be highly advantageous
  • Experience working closely within or with a ROSCO or OEM on fleet contract delivery or management would be highly advantageous
