The Serology PCR Technician is responsible examining samples for the presence of specific substances (often bacteria) using molecular diagnostic methods.
Job Responsibility:
Perform and analyze results for vector borne, respiratory and GI panels and other non-PCR tests as required.
Reads and releases test results.
Tests performed may be more complex.
Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results.
Performs equipment maintenance.
Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.
Awareness of quality control and calibration.
Developing knowledge of multiple specialties.
Find missing specimens. Print and reconcile queue list.
Library all samples.
Maintain all departmental equipment.
Cross-train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
Applies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.
Reads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.
Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
Consult with senior peers on non-complex Serology tasks to learn through experience.
May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position. Adherence to attendance-related policies and expectations is critical to this position.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
MS Degree in Molecular Biology preferred. Bachelor's Degree or Molecular Biology required.
Typically 0-1 years of PCR related lab experience
Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments.
General science background, including hematology/chemistry helpful
Attention to detail
Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Communication skills, both verbal and written
Positive, can-do attitude
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as appropriate.
Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office
