SUMMARY: This position is under the direct supervision of the Lieutenant of Police and is responsible for the Police officers assigned to his/her command and the services it provides to the Omaha Indian Reservation. Under the Authority of the Chief of Police this position may be specific in its nature with regards to the duties and assignments.
Job Responsibility:
Directing and coordinating activities of the patrol division, including shift coverage and maintenance of equipment and departmental inventories
Oversight of the K-9 Division, including creation and implementation of policies and procedures
Reporting policy infractions to the Lieutenant of Police
Submitting recommendations for improvement to the Chief of Police
Maintaining integrity of scene until arrival of commanding officers
Conducting roll call to assure police officers are on duty
Explaining general orders, special messages, and decisions of the Chief of Police
Communicating changes in regulations, policies, or laws
Submitting reports on departmental equipment and weekly activities
Assuming command of police officers at incidents
Coordinating activities with subordinates to resolve community concerns
Assigning areas of responsibilities for subordinate officers
Being available for emergencies and on-call 24/7
Submitting weekly reports with suggestions
Identifying training needs and coordinating in-service training
Reporting all major crimes to superiors
Working to enhance cooperation between Federal, State and Local agencies
Personnel management responsibilities including keeping management informed of personnel problems
Tracking time and attendance of subordinates
Requirements:
Possess a High School degree or General Education Degree (G.E.D.)
Must have at least six (6) months previous administrative experience in house or a related field
Must have successfully completed the Basic Police Academy Training and/or Supervisory Course
Applicant must have at least three (3) years previous experience as a police officer in law enforcement
Must have experience and a basic understanding of Indian Country Law Enforcement and the working relationships with Bureau of Indian Affairs, State, and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies
Possess licenses and the ability to utilize various specialized equipment in the application of law enforcement activities
Possess a valid Nebraska Driver's License
Possess or be able to obtain certification in First Aid / CPR
Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment background checks, drug testing, and physical
Physically able to work rotating shifts, overtime, etc.
May be required to submit to psychological testing prior to appointment or position
