The CareShare Facilitator leads and delivers group sessions for seniors and their caregivers aged 55+ as part of a community-based seniors day program. The role focuses on facilitating non-medical, social and recreational activities that reduce isolation, support well being, and promote meaningful connections for seniors in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. Programming is delivered in collaboration with the Alzheimer Society of BC and uses Alzheimer and dementia friendly practices. The Facilitator also supports caregiver respite by engaging seniors in structured activities while their caregivers participate in education and support sessions. The Facilitator supports both seniors and caregivers by leading activities for seniors and assisting with caregiver education and Alzheimer friendly information sessions through parallel programming. The role includes outreach and recruitment of seniors and their caregivers through community engagement activities, information sharing, and participation in outreach events. The role also includes coordinating and supporting volunteers by providing guidance, assigning tasks, and ensuring volunteers are supported during program activities.
Job Responsibility:
Conducting outreach to promote the Program at various locations
Building relationships to identify and recruit caregivers (55+) to join the program
Developing and maintaining partnerships and collaborating with agencies to support service delivery
Organizing and leading weekly group sessions for program participants
Delivering safe, inclusive activities using Alzheimer and dementia‑friendly practices
Providing resources to promote program activities and arranging for guest speakers
Coordinating the volunteer schedule and supervising volunteers during program activities
Tracking participation, activities, and outcomes, and completing required program reports and documentation
Requirements:
A certificate, diploma or degree in a related field or an acceptable combination of training and/or experience
Experience in planning and organizing activities and/or events
Experience working with databases to input and track data and create reports
Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
Knowledge of community resources and community partners in the Abbotsford area which provide support to seniors
Skills in group facilitation and activity planning skills
Knowledge of aging, dementia, and Alzheimer-friendly practices
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Organization and time management skills
Reporting and documentation abilities
Ability to travel within the community to outreach locations
Skills with Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook
Ability to use databases to input data and generate reports
Empathy and understanding when working with seniors and caregivers
Ability to actively engage groups and create welcoming, inclusive activities
Ability to be collaborative and approachable and work well with community partners, volunteers, and caregivers in a team environment
The use of a personal vehicle is required for program-related driving
must be able to be insured according to Archway’s transportation policy
The ability to lift or carry items up to 50lbs may be required
Willing to obtain Emergency First Aid and CPR/AED
A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
