Job Description:

The city of Fitchburg is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Senior Wastewater Operator. This role is responsible for overseeing shift operations at a complex, advanced wastewater treatment facility, including directing and assisting operational staff to ensure effective treatment processes, achievement of target performance results, and full regulatory compliance.

Job Responsibility:

Requirements:

  • Valid Massachusetts Grade VI Wastewater Operator license

  • Minimum of two years in a supervisory or lead operational role
  • Up to four years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study in environmental engineering or a related field may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis

  • Performs difficult technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities
  • May provide direction to peers and subordinates in performance of routine day-to-day work activities
  • Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide efficiency and excellence in the use of City resources
