Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity in our Executive and Professional Liability division for a Senior Underwriter to join the Commercial Lines (Public) team based in either of our Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York City offices. In this role you will focus on developing broker relationships, prequalifying new business opportunities, managing existing portfolio of business, and growing a book of business in our West region. The Senior Underwriter will be actively involved with Management in the building of the platform and product offering. You will handle day-to-day responsibilities as a public company Senior Underwriter. Tasks will include marketing to distribution channels, utilize underwriting acumen to select sound underwriting risks and form opinion of risk. Expand and develop new business opportunities through production & marketing calls with brokers and clients.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and build upon a book of business that is consistent with the team’s strategic focus
Expand on broker and customer relationships
Underwrite to complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our partners without sacrificing discipline, diligence, or portfolio strength
Effectively communicate BHSI’s value proposition to brokers and customers
Collaborate with teammates across all product lines, help create a positive experience for our customers

Requirements:
4 to 7 years of experience underwriting or broking financial lines for public companies, private or non-profit entities, or financial institutions
Demonstrated understanding of financial analysis and financial markets
Foundational to high level of understanding of policy forms and coverage types including: Directors and Officers Liability, Errors and Omissions, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability and Fidelity
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
