A market-leading specialty insurer is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter – Casualty Binders to join its highly respected Delegated Authority Practice team in London. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established and technically strong Casualty Binders portfolio, underwriting a diverse range of global risks while helping to shape strategy, develop broker and coverholder relationships, and contribute to the long-term growth of the business.
Job Responsibility:
Support the development and delivery of the annual underwriting business plan in line with agreed risk appetite
Ensure alignment across the team by communicating objectives and strategic priorities
Contribute to strategic discussions, sharing insight, ideas, and best practice
Support innovation and continuous improvement within the portfolio
Underwrite casualty binder risks in line with underwriting authority and business objectives
Negotiate rates, terms, and conditions for new and renewal business
Ensure contract certainty and accurate production of underwriting documentation
Review and analyse portfolio performance to track progress against targets
Ensure underwriting and exposure data is accurately recorded in relevant systems
Build and strengthen relationships with brokers, coverholders, reinsurers, and industry partners
Maintain a strong understanding of market dynamics and cycles to enhance portfolio performance
Support renewal activity while also contributing to new business growth
Ensure full compliance with internal policies, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements
Apply reinsurance arrangements in line with agreed risk tolerances
Demonstrate strong conduct and integrity, with a clear understanding of regulatory obligations including solvency, data protection, financial crime, and fair treatment of customers
Manage and allocate team resources effectively
Motivate, develop, and support team members through strong leadership behaviours
Manage performance in line with company frameworks and expectations
Requirements:
Significant experience in casualty underwriting, including delegated authority business
Strong understanding of reinsurance structures and casualty risk profiles
Proven ability to analyse data and use insights to support underwriting decisions
Experience working with pricing tools, loss models, and actuarial teams
High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with underwriting systems
Established broker and market relationships, with appetite for both renewal and new business
Nice to have:
Knowledge of additional product lines (e.g. Property or Environmental Liability) is advantageous
