Senior Technology Development Specialist role at Climeworks, a leading carbon removal provider. The mission is to develop and mature innovative sorbent modules for the next generation of CO₂ collector products, involving testing, cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder management, and external partnerships.
Job Responsibility:
Sorbent Module Development: take ownership of developing and maturing innovative sorbent modules from concept phase (TRL0) to early-stage product readiness (TRL5)
Testing & Characterization: lead in-house and external development, testing, and characterization of sorbent modules or their sub-elements
ensure a smooth transition to manufacturing and operations
define product requirements
Cross-Functional Collaboration: collaborate closely with internal experts in testing, product design, and sorbent/process development
contribute to the development of new testing methods
Stakeholder & Project Management: drive efficient collaboration across functions and with external partners
ensure alignment
manage both technical and non-technical risks
set clear priorities
External Partnerships & Technical Leadership: act as a key technical expert in collaborations with external partners
ensure DAC-specific requirements for sorbent modules are met
Contract & Scope Management: work with the legal team to ensure contracts with third parties are aligned with the technical scope of work
IP & Scientific Contribution: evaluate relevant scientific literature and patents as needed
contribute to the generation of new intellectual property
Requirements:
Advanced degree in engineering or materials science
Over 5 years of experience in research and development, spanning at least 2 outside of academia
Experience in successful delivery of technologies into industrial manufacturing environments
Skilled in immobilizing sorbents or catalysts in 3D structures
Understanding of how material properties influence system performance
Application of target-driven R&D methods such as DOE
Experience in material and structural characterization techniques
Initiative and results-driven working style
Hands-on throughout the full development cycle
Ability to collaborate easily across teams and communicate clearly
Enjoy leading both in-house and external projects
Fluent in English
Open to occasional travel (up to 10%)
