We are seeking an expert Senior Technology Architect specializing in IBM Mainframe Performance and Capacity Management to act as a principal subject matter expert. In this role, you will sustain critical Keep-The-Lights-On (KTLO) operations, drive large-scale post-migration stabilization activities, and architect infrastructure readiness for a newly acquired Disaster Recovery (DR) co-location site. This position requires a highly technical professional capable of analyzing complex platform metrics, executing data-driven optimization strategies, and managing multi-partitioned enterprise environments to identify processing cost savings.
Job Responsibility
Capacity Planning & Assessment: Author, review, and maintain comprehensive capacity planning documents for the mainframe platform and IMS/DB2 subsystems. Perform complex 'what-if' impact modeling for CPU upgrades, hardware refreshes, and project workload variations
Metric Modeling & Calculations: Execute mathematical conversions and estimations to measure workload impacts in terms of $MIPS$ (Millions of Instructions Per Second) and $MSUs$ (Million Service Units) across complex, multi-partitioned LPAR environments
Tooling & Report Configuration: Configure, manage, and extract reporting insights from interactive capacity management utilities, specifically MICS (MVS Information Control System) and RMF (Resource Measurement Facility)
Data Logging Analysis: Parse, analyze, and manipulate System Management Facility (SMF) data utilizing SAS Programming frameworks to optimize subsystem throughput and manage zIIP engine utilization
Cost Optimization & Software Billing: Proactively identify CPU cost-saving opportunities, implement workload capping or balancing strategies, and reconcile mainframe software consumption billing for Independent Software Vendor (ISV) licenses
Disaster Recovery & Hardware Provisioning: Lead architectural installation, validation, and testing tracks for the new mainframe hardware platform at the DR co-location site. Participate in periodic live DR exercises to maintain total systems readiness
Incident Architecture & Root-Cause Analysis: Diagnose complex systemic failures, provide tier-3 operational support, and compile precise technical Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation along with root-cause system captures
Vendor & Lifecycle Management: Provide migration, modernization, and decommissioning architecture support for mainframe system utilities. Collaborate directly with tier-1 hardware/software vendors and cross-functional IT infrastructure leads
Requirements
Minimum of 7 years of dedicated, hands-on experience in Mainframe Performance and Capacity Management roles within massive enterprise environments
Firm structural understanding of IBM Mainframe CPU concepts, including Capacity BackUp (CBU) provisioning and Capacity on Demand (CoD) adjustments
Proven, advanced capability configuring and reporting via MICS, RMF, and associated ISV performance monitors
Deep familiarity parsing SMF records combined with practical SAS programming skills for processing massive performance datasets
Sound knowledge of database/transaction subsystem resource footprints, particularly IMS and DB2
Well-versed in ITIL-aligned Incident and Problem Management frameworks, with an ability to strictly adhere to enterprise Service Level Agreement (SLA) metrics
