Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the responsible for powering Microsoft’s Cloud by engineering silicon to cloud optimal systems enabling our customers to achieve more. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Copilot, Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. We are looking for a Hardware Program Manager with a strong passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow, the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, at high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware development and manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. This Hardware PM role in the Compute TPM Team will play a pivotal role in delivering new server hardware and software technologies at scale that have a significant impact to the business and Azure. This candidate will collaborate with both internal Microsoft teams and external suppliers (Semiconductor providers, OEMs/ODMs, CPU, system, memory, and others) to drive delivery of core technologies that enable our Cloud infrastructure. We are looking for a Senior Technical Hardware Program Manager to join the team.

Job Responsibility:

  • Drive virtual teams of functional leads including members from hardware and software engineering, sourcing, supply chain, networking and datacenter operations from documenting a clear Plan-of-Record (POR) for the new product development to leading the project team to meet stated milestones
  • Technical Program Management for new Cloud hardware development
  • Drive the development, planning & execution of a holistic cross functional product development and/or launch strategy
  • Provides technical leadership and identify technical risks
  • Collaborate with internal and external technology development partners to form a cohesive development plan
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the product technical requirements, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies for establishing an accurate and effective project infrastructure
  • Leverage experience and engineering skills to solve problems, fill gaps and achieve objectives through a cross functional team
  • Responsible for effective communication and escalation of risks and dependencies while ensuring timely decisions are being made
  • Hold accountability for team and most or all portions of the work to deliver best in class architecture solutions
  • The ability to engage subject matter experts across disciplines to deliver the best outcomes
  • Conducts risk management efforts in new product introduction, scenario planning and mitigation of risks, recovery from risks
  • Communicate to and regularly interact with senior leadership, highlighting risks across functional teams and providing recommendations to support product level decisions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Nice to have:

  • 3+ years of experience in design and delivery of Hardware engineering products
  • 4+ years of technical program management or project management experience or a technical role with systems engineering experience, preferably in Cloud silicon, server design, accelerators, Networking solutions, FW & SW development and deployment, and systems solutions from cradle to grave
  • 3+ years of experience in managing a team of engineering and/or technical operations professionals responsible for critical systems and operations in a matrix organization
  • Excellent technical design, problem solving, debugging and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in shipping high quality products and services
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, assess opportunities and develop principles to prioritize multiple strategic and tactical options, and drive issues to closure with a high bar on quality
  • Proven ability to work and collaborate with a wide range of business stakeholders to achieve results and impact
  • Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences (Senior Executives, IT management, etc.)
  • Supplier management experience for ODMs, SIs, and IHVs
