Job Description

The Senior Tech Lead, Workday is the enterprise’s technical authority for all integrations and architectural patterns for Workday. This senior individual contributor owns the integration landscape, end-to-end-design, build, patterns, governance, modernizations, and technical roadmap. In addition, the role serves as a trusted architect and hands-on technologist across all Workday domains (HCM and Finance), helping shape scalable, resilient, AI-enabled business processes across the People & Culture and Finance technology ecosystem.

Job Responsibility

  • Serve as Zelis’ technical authority for all Workday integrations across HCM and Finance domains
  • Design and govern end-to-end integration patterns using Workday Studio, Core Connectors, EIB, and Workday REST/SOAP APIs
  • Architect integrations using Azure API Management, SFTP, custom APIs, and influence the evaluation and adoption of other integration middleware
  • Define reusable patterns, reference architectures, and technical standards for how Workday interfaces with the broader enterprise ecosystem
  • Maintain deep knowledge of Workday’s integration capabilities, upcoming platform changes, and release cycles
  • Develop, configure, and troubleshoot complex integrations in Workday Studio and related frameworks
  • Perform root-cause analysis for integration incidents, ensuring permanent fixes and architectural hardening
  • Mentor Workday analysts and partner engineers on best practices for API usage, error handling, and data transformation
  • Champion security-by-design principles, including tokenization, encryption, and identity-centered patterns
  • Support all Workday domains at an architectural level, with ability to advise on data models, cross-domain dependencies, configuration approaches, and extensibility
  • Act as a technical partner to HR Tech and Finance Tech product owners to ensure coherence between business and platform design
  • Lead adoption of AI and predictive automation within the Workday integration landscape
  • Implement AI-enabled monitoring or copilots to detect anomalies, data breaks, and integration failures early
  • Partner with HR/Finance stakeholders to identify opportunities to streamline business workflows using Workday Extend or AI/LLM-driven patterns
  • Advocate for continuous modernization of Workday processes and integrations
  • Provide architectural input on how Workday should integrate with other HR/Finance platforms
  • Influence platform selection, integration design, and data flow considerations for new systems entering the HR/Finance stack
  • Own the Workday integration roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, InfoSec, and HR/Finance strategies

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Workday technical experience with deep expertise in Workday integrations (Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, PECI/CIC)
  • Proven track record serving as a hands-on integration architect or lead technologist
  • Strong experience building integrations using APIs, Azure APIM, SFTP, and custom interface frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to create reference architectures, solution designs, sequences, and integration patterns
  • Strong understanding of Workday security, business processes, data models, and domain structures across both HCM and Finance
  • Experience supporting full lifecycle Workday implementations, upgrades, and major integration transformations
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills
  • Ability to work autonomously as a senior IC while influencing senior stakeholders
