Job Description

This position is responsible for ensuring accurate US Sales and Use tax compliance, including validation of transactions, review of product and service taxability, reconciliation of tax data and reports, and oversight of exemption and 'do not remit' cases. The role requires working with Vertex O, ERP systems, and large datasets to identify discrepancies, improve tax accuracy, and support timely filings with state and local taxing authorities. Candidate in this role applies specialty area knowledge in monitoring, assessing, analyzing, and validating tax processes and data. Identifies reporting gaps, evaluates product/service taxability, and recommends updates to system mappings and policies. Researches and interprets factual information, applies judgment to resolve discrepancies, and ensures compliance with multi-state Sales and Use tax requirements. Integrates disciplinary knowledge in indirect tax with a solid understanding of related industry practices, particularly in system/ERP and tax engine (Vertex O) usage. Develops working knowledge of industry practices and standards. Limited but direct impact on the business through accuracy of compliance and reporting.

  • Work on EMEA shift
  • Responsible for validation of Sales & Use tax transactions in Vertex O, including checks for tax accuracy, exemptions, and 'do not remit' cases
  • Reviews product and service taxability, ensuring correct classification and mapping within Vertex and ERP systems
  • Performs transactional analysis and data reconciliations between Vertex, ERP, and general ledger
  • identifies and resolves discrepancies
  • Provides analytical support to monitor tax variances, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions
  • Contributes to preparation, filing, and reporting of Sales & Use tax returns in connection with transactions and obligations of the company
  • Assists in tax audits, providing supporting documentation on taxability, reconciliations, and exemption claims
  • Advises on procedures and concepts in technical/subject area and integrates with others in accomplishing objectives of the sub-function
  • Identifies process gaps and contributes to automation, efficiency improvements, and data quality initiatives
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • 8-10 years of experience in indirect Tax, ERP system (e.g. Oracle, SAP, etc.) & tax engine (Vertex O)
  • Experience in using Vertex-O is required for this role
  • Reconciliation & Audit experience is a plus

  • Calculating and advising tax accruals, tax payments and UK group relief
  • Liaising closely with Transfer Pricing colleagues, and local teams such as Finance, Indirect Taxes, Legal, Treasury, Compliance and Risk as required
  • Responding to and resolve EMEA tax authorities’ enquiries in a timely manner
