Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join a small, collaborative accounting team based in Highland Park, Illinois. This position is ideal for an experienced, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a hands-on, client-focused environment. As a contract-to-permanent role, it offers the opportunity to contribute to the financial success of individuals and small businesses while advancing within the organization.

Job Responsibility:

  • Prepare federal and state tax returns for individuals, small businesses, and trusts
  • Provide expert consultation to clients regarding their unique tax situations and strategies
  • Evaluate and enhance internal processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in tax preparation
  • Perform QuickBooks bookkeeping tasks and deliver general financial support during the off-season
  • Collaborate directly with the firm’s owner to address client needs and ensure quality service delivery
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements
  • Assist in resolving tax-related issues and inquiries from clients
  • Build and nurture relationships with clients through effective communication and personalized service

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in tax preparation, specializing in individual and small business returns
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and a strong background in bookkeeping
  • Solid understanding of federal and state tax laws and compliance standards
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain tax concepts to clients clearly
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a small team setting and adapt to changing priorities
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Commitment to providing high-quality client service and meeting deadlines

Nice to have:

  • Experience with UltraTax software is a plus
  • Experience with corporate tax returns and sales tax preparation
