We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented corporate tax specialist to manage a broad range of compliance and reporting activities for a manufacturing organization in Richmond, Virginia. This role combines hands-on tax execution with opportunities to guide process improvements, respond to regulatory matters, and support operational priorities across the business. The ideal candidate brings strong technical tax knowledge, works effectively with limited oversight, and is comfortable coordinating with internal teams and external advisors.
Job Responsibility
Prepare and oversee federal, state, and local income tax filings, including consolidated federal returns and state filings prepared on unitary or separate-company bases
Manage quarterly estimates, filing extensions, and related compliance deadlines to ensure accurate and timely submissions
Respond to tax notices, information requests, and audit activity from regulatory authorities while coordinating documentation and follow-up actions
Partner with internal stakeholders and outside service providers to gather, validate, and analyze data needed for tax reporting and compliance
Support a wide range of non-income tax activities, including nexus reviews, state tax registrations, franchise and gross receipts tax matters, sales and use tax, property tax, and information reporting requirements
Contribute to specialized tax work such as transfer pricing, international tax matters, and other multi-jurisdictional compliance obligations
Perform monthly and annual tax accounting tasks, including provision calculations and reconciliation of tax-related accounts in accordance with applicable accounting standards
Maintain business compliance filings such as Secretary of State registrations, business license requirements, census-related reporting, and unclaimed property submissions
Identify regulatory developments, improve written procedures, and lead process enhancements that strengthen the efficiency and consistency of the tax function
Provide independent ownership of assigned workstreams and review selected work prepared by staff or peers as needed
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related business discipline
At least 5 years of relevant experience in corporate tax within public accounting, industry, or a combination of both
Demonstrated expertise in corporate income tax compliance, including federal and state filing requirements
Experience with annual income tax provision work and tax account reconciliations
Working knowledge of indirect tax areas such as sales and use tax and other state and local tax obligations
Strong foundation in accounting principles and the ability to apply technical tax knowledge to complex compliance matters
Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines, work independently, and take initiative with minimal supervision
Effective communication skills and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and external advisors
