Job Description:

Our established Geosciences team delivers first-class geotechnical engineering services across a wide range of investigation and analysis techniques. Within this group, our Mine Tailings team brings together specialists across six continents, offering global expertise across all phases of tailings management – from concept and design through to operation, monitoring and closure. We are seeking an experienced Senior Tailings Engineer to join our Brisbane-based team. This is a key technical and project leadership role, providing opportunities to lead complex tailings projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to technical excellence across the business.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead and contribute to tailings storage facility (TSF) and mine waste landform projects across the full mining lifecycle, including planning, design, execution, operations, monitoring, and closure
  • Provide senior‑level technical input across tailings and mine waste management, including geotechnical characterisation, slope stability, seismic deformation and liquefaction analyses, seismic hazard assessments, seepage, and foundation behaviour of dams and tailings storage facilities
  • Take responsibility for project technical governance, managing scope, budgets, schedules, and delivery outcomes
  • Delegate and coordinate technical tasks across project teams and to junior engineers, balancing workloads to support project delivery, quality outcomes, and team development
  • Support business development through project scoping, proposal input, and client engagement
  • Ensure all work meets internal quality standards, industry best practice, and client requirements
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, mechanical and process engineers, environmental scientists, field teams, and laboratories
  • Apply sound professional judgement, data interpretation, and engineering analysis to deliver practical, risk‑informed, and commercially sound solutions
  • Review and author high‑quality technical reports and design documentation
  • Mentor and support the development of junior and intermediate engineers
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to SaferTogether, prioritising health and safety at all times

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical, Geology or Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status (RPEQ and/or CPEng)
  • 8 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering with significant exposure to tailings and/or mine waste projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading or strongly influencing geotechnical design and delivery on complex projects
  • A strong client focus, with the ability to manage relationships and deliver to agreed outcomes
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and review skills
  • A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to remote project sites as required

  • Compile comprehensive list of airworthiness directives, alert service bulletins and optional service bulletins, document preservation, maintenance or inspections of Aircraft, Engine(s), Dynamic components, Main or Tail rotor blades, component changes as applicable in respective component log cards for final conformity of Aircraft
  • Issue TCCA Form Ones, conformity inspection records, airworthiness approvals of new products and articles, return to service of inspected products and articles, that conform to the approved type design requirements and are in a condition for safe operation using procedures
  • Validation of inspection and/or compliance of life limited, cycle limited components, airworthiness directives, Emergency alert and alert service bulletins for applicable airframe, engine(s) and component calendar and/or hourly technical inspections per applicable manufactures recommended, TCCA/ AMM/ICA approved continuous airworthiness inspection programs
  • Ensure the state of preservation for Airframe and Engine(s) are reviewed for proper application and current with applicable intervals and carry on calendar maintenance intervals
  • Validation of testing of emergency locator transmitters (ELT), Transponders, Altimeters, Airspeed Indicators, Air Data Computers, aircraft static pressure systems and automatic pressure altitude reporting systems in accordance with applicable TCCA regulations
