Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Systems Operations Engineer in technology as part of Commercial and Corporate & Investment Banking Technology (CCIBT). Team is seeking a Payments Modernization Platform Engineer / SRE to join Payments & Liquidity Technology (GPLT), supporting the transformation of the high-value payments landscape as we modernize legacy wire platforms onto a new, event-driven, cloud-native architecture. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, service management, and reliability. You will be embedded early in the Payments Modernization lifecycle to ensure platforms are operable, resilient, observable, and supportable by design, not retrofitted after go-live. You will work closely with Application Engineering, Architecture and Service Operations teams to shape how new payment capabilities are built, tested, released, and stabilized at scale.
Job Responsibility:
Lead or participate in managing all installed systems and infrastructure within the Systems Operations functional area
Contribute in increasing system efficiencies and lowering the human intervention time on related tasks
Review and analyze moderately complex operational support systems, application software, and system management tools to ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
Work with vendors and other technical personnel for problem resolution
Lead team to meet technical deliverables while leveraging solid understanding of technical process controls or standards
Collaborate with vendors and other technical personnel to resolve technical issues and achieve highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
Embed Site Reliability Engineering and production engineering practices into Payments Modernization initiatives from design through early life support
Define and validate non‑functional requirements
Lead capacity and performance testing for high‑volume and peak payment events
Ensure robust replay, retry, and exception‑handling for event‑driven flows
Own permit‑to‑operate readiness, cutover and early life support models
Ensure runbooks, on‑call readiness, and escalation paths are production‑grade before go‑live
Drive end‑to‑end observability, SLOs and error budgets
Reduce alert noise
Analyze early defect patterns to stabilize services
Strengthen recovery, reduce risk, and improve the reliability of critical payment platforms through chaos engineering, blameless RCAs, and continuous service improvement
Requirements:
4+ years of Systems Engineering, Technology Architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
2+ years of application support experience
2+ years of Platform experience in Kubernetes / container orchestration
Nice to have:
2+ years of CI/CD & Automation experience in Progressive delivery, automated rollback, reliability-as-code concepts
2+ years of Application Frameworks experience in Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux, etc.
2+ years of Data Stores & Caching experience with MongoDB, Redis
2+ years of Resilience experience with Resilience4J, retry/replay patterns
2+ years Observability: Distributed tracing, metrics, logging, SLO tooling
2+ years Testing & Resilience Validation: BlazeMeter, Chaos Monkey
Strong experience in SRE, Production Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Service Transition within a complex technology or financial services environment
Demonstrated ability to productionize new platforms, not just support them
Solid understanding of high-value payment systems (Wires, RTP, SWIFT, CHIPS, FedNow) and their operational risk profile
Experience working with event-driven, distributed architectures
Comfortable operating in early-stage, ambiguous transformation environments
