Job Description:

Robert Half is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support a non-profit human services organization based in Washington State. This role supports a cloud-first, hybrid infrastructure environment and is focused on hands-on execution across infrastructure, cloud, and security initiatives, including multiple compliance-driven projects. The position is primarily onsite, and is a contract-to-hire opportunity with strong potential to convert.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support and maintain a hybrid IT infrastructure spanning on-premises and cloud environments
  • Manage and maintain Windows server environments including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related services
  • Administer and support on-prem virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V
  • Support cloud infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, including Azure VMs, networking, storage, and hybrid integrations
  • Deploy, manage, and support Microsoft 365 services including Exchange (hybrid), Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
  • Administer Entra ID (Azure AD), including identity management, MFA, conditional access, and SSO
  • Support endpoint and device management using Microsoft Intune
  • Implement and maintain security tooling such as Microsoft Defender (EDR/XDR) and Azure Sentinel (SIEM/SOAR)
  • Monitor infrastructure and applications using tools such as SolarWinds and native Azure monitoring
  • Support security audits and compliance efforts, including documentation and reporting
  • Troubleshoot complex system, network, and cloud-related issues and serve as an escalation point when needed
  • Automate administrative tasks and operational workflows using PowerShell
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
  • Collaborate closely with IT leadership while owning hands-on execution of assigned systems and projects

Requirements:

  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation experience
  • Hands-on on-prem infrastructure experience
  • VMware experience required (Hyper-V acceptable)
  • Strong Windows Server administration background
  • Solid networking fundamentals, including firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, and SD-WAN exposure
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments (on-prem + Azure)
  • Familiarity with security tools such as Microsoft Defender, Azure Sentinel, Cisco/Fortinet solutions
  • Experience working in compliance-driven environments (audit readiness, documentation, controls)
  • Ability to be adaptable in a fast-paced environment with multiple active projects

Nice to have:

  • Cloud experience is not required but is highly preferred
  • adaptable candidates with strong infrastructure fundamentals will be prioritized
