Job Description

Our client, a major EPC company, is looking for a Senior Substation Electrical Engineer to work on an initial 12-month contract to perm assignment.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide engineering support for the design of substation facilities for 69kV and above
  • Perform substation physical design including overall engineering and analysis for new switchyards and substations, additions and modifications
  • Preparation of specifications and provide procurement support
  • Preparation of engineering drawings including layout and general arrangements for all major equipment and structures
  • Perform auxiliary electrical power system studies including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, protection and coordination, ampacity, and battery sizing studies
  • Perform substation grounding calculations and studies, lightning protection and insulation coordination, lighting, bus calculations, transformer and bus sizing calculations, fault calculations, and AC and DC auxiliary system sizing calculations
  • Perform proposal preparation, proposal estimates, and provide input to scope documents and client presentations
  • Work in a team-oriented environment with ability to work independently or as part of a group
  • Responsible for the quality assurance of the documents to the applicable client standards
  • Commitment to customer service and ability to work independently on more varied and complex tasks
  • Collaborate with project managers, drafters, civil/structural engineers, and field personnel
  • Complete tasks in accordance with project procedures, applicable codes and/or standards, on schedule and within budget
  • Discuss technical problems and communicate effectively with other project personnel and outside customers
  • Perform independent audits and reviews of technical work
  • Perform the function of a team leader that can solve complex issues and act as a lead engineer responsible for the quality of the deliverables
  • Interface with outside customers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 8 or more years of experience in substation design
  • Experience with power system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, CYME, SKM)
  • Sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of electrical engineering
  • Sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite
  • Substantial technical and practical experience in electrical engineering in the same or similar industry including experience in working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams
  • Experience in estimating project costs and writing proposal content
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel to job sites to perform site walkdown

Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States is preferred
