This role is primarily responsible for the design, build and test of next generation aircraft aerostructures including fuselage, empennage, control surfaces and landing gear. We are currently in the process of designing iterative airframes on the path to hypersonic flight and looking for a Senior Structures Engineer to lead hardware upgrades, clean sheet designs and mentor junior engineers here in Atlanta.
Job Responsibility:
Lead detailed project planning and drive hardware delivery on aggressive timelines
Collaborate directly with high level design concepts turning them into detailed designs including final geometry, material selection and DFM
Design and implement full-stack design to build to test processes—factory layout, tooling, test flow, and vehicle integration and test
Perform analysis of build non-conformances and chart path forward for low rate prototype hardware
Drive the transition from prototype to production for complex aerospace assemblies
Ruthlessly question process complexity—delete parts, eliminate waste, simplify flow
Perform detailed structural analysis and report structural margins
Develop and run test procedures for flight hardware
Serve as a force multiplier across production, test, and design teams
Requirements:
Strong engineering first principles
Comfort with CAD, test equipment, hand tools
You’ve built something that’s flown, broke, or both
Proven ability to design, build, break, and iterate quickly
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, or related engineering field
Hands-on experience with physical hardware (internships, labs, project teams all count)
Familiarity with manufacturing processes (machining, welding, forming, etc.) and GD&T fundamentals
Must be available to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to support critical milestones
Must be willing to travel to test sites, other Hermeus offices, and partner locations as needed (up to 25% travel)
Must either be a “U.S. person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing
Nice to have:
Designed and released flight hardware
Strong GD&T skills per ASME Y14.5
Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter and NX
Familiarity with NX Nastran and Ansys analysis tools
Familiarity with AWS D17.1 and aerospace welding processes
Leadership experience on project teams or in mentorship roles
Experience standing up production lines or test infrastructure in a fast-paced environment
