Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Transport Delivery team in South Brisbane on a full-time basis. With an exciting pipeline of major infrastructure projects, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality bridge and transport infrastructure design outcomes. In this role, you will support the delivery of a diverse range of infrastructure projects, contributing to the design of bridges and associated structures. You will apply your technical expertise across design activities, ensuring outputs meet relevant standards, client requirements, and project specifications. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including civil and geotechnical specialists, you will collaborate to develop practical and compliant design solutions. You will also assist in maintaining project quality, timelines, and commercial objectives through effective technical delivery. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer looking to deepen their technical capability while working on complex and significant projects within a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Develop design concepts and carrying out detailed design of simple and complex bridges, underpasses, retaining walls, sign gantries and other infrastructure structures
  • Plan and carry out site inspections of structures, when required
  • Perform advance designs and analyses including finite element and soil-structure interaction analysis
  • Prepare design documentation, technical reports and client’s specifications
  • Manage interface with civil, hydraulic and geotechnical disciplines and incorporate their interdisciplinary input within the structural design envelope

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Demonstrated 5 -10 years’ experience in bridge design/engineering as well as other structural design projects, including transport infrastructure, temporary works etc
  • RPEQ registration or in the process of obtaining it within 12 months after joining Stantec
  • Familiarity with local authority and state government approval and regulatory requirements
  • Growing understanding of commercial concepts (i.e. financial, legal)
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant local standards, legislation and Australian Standards

  • Deliver the outcomes agreed with the National Highways and Connect Plus DBFO Co. to programme and budget, and to meet CPS quality standards.
  • Management and supervision of engineers within the structures design team and to coordinate between design, asset and PM teams and organisations (NH SES).
  • To manage design delivery, and review documentation, from Framework Consultants
  • Lead Substandard Structures (bridges, viaducts) structural assessments and strengthening schemes. Prioritise structures for assessments, supervise assessment process, lead strengthening schemes design, present/report to Client on progress.
  • Monitor, review and check deliverables from external designers to ensure that designs are complete and compliant prior submission to National Highways through the Review Process.
  • Manage external framework design suppliers to deliver agreed outcomes, scope, on time and to budget.
  • Assist the wider Design Team in various highways Improvement Schemes.
  • Manage internal design resources within Design Team to deliver agreed outcomes, scope, on time and to budget.
