Job Description

Senior Stroke Physiotherapist - Band 6. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well established and respected stroke therapy team who work on the acute stroke unit. This band 6 Physiotherapy post will enable the successful applicant to develop both their clinical reasoning and treatment skills within the field of stroke therapy as well as gaining supervision experience of more junior staff. Support will be provided from the Band 7 therapists. You will be an excellent communicator, enthusiastic, flexible and able to work autonomously using strong clinical assessment and reasoning skills as well as supporting complex discharge planning. You will demonstrate a desire to work creatively to bring about innovative service development and have a passion for working within stroke patients.

Job Responsibility

  • Be an integral part of the stroke therapy team
  • Work well with the whole MDT to provide excellent evidence based rehabilitation and discharge planning on the acute stroke unit
  • Be an active part of the in-service programme and enthusiastically take part in service development projects
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to more junior staff
  • Be a clinical educator for physiotherapy students on placement
  • Be responsible for the inpatient rehabilitation and day to day running of the Physiotherapy team under your direct supervision
  • Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work
  • Ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your own management and support more junior staff to do the same

Requirements

  • HCPC registration
  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Specialist postgraduate stroke training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in specialist area
  • Computer Literate
  • Broad experience as a band 5 Physiotherapist
  • Experience of working in stroke and elderly care
  • Experience of supervising others including junior staff and students
  • Experience of working in the NHS or NHS commissioned services
  • Experience of delivering in-service training
  • Experience of working within a Multidisciplinary Team
  • Experience in the use of outcome measures
  • Experience of complex discharge planning and case management

Nice to have

  • Clinical Educator Accreditation
  • Introductory Management training
  • Post graduate training in rehabilitation / neurology eg Bobath Adult Hemiplegia course, MSc modules or equivalent
  • Experience of working within stroke or neurology as a band 6
  • Experience of team leadership
