The Department of Ophthalmology / Shiley Eye Institute at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) is an internationally recognized center conducting basic, translational and clinical science research on eye diseases. This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote. Under general supervision, uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research professional with a full understanding of in-depth statistical analyses and / or research software programming techniques. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Job Responsibility:
Uses multiple statistical software packages to look for outliers and anomalies in the data
Writes and debugs code using several statistical software packages such as R and SAS
Designs, maintains and documents procedures, including methods and summary/conclusions
Interfaces between biostatisticians and all the data used for the analyses
Develops, plans and executes a wide range of statistical analyses including multi-variable, mathematical modeling, power and sample size calculations, mixed effect modeling of longitudinal data and non-parametric statistics related to ophthalmic and vision science research
Requirements:
Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training
Thorough knowledge of research function
Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming
Thorough skills in analysis and consultation
Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
Skills in project management
Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations
Experience managing and working with large-scale multivariate longitudinal data-bases
Experience preparing and submitting manuscripts for publication

Nice to have:
MS or PhD in statistics
Demonstrated expertise in univariate and multivariate statistical procedures for cross-sectional and longitudinal study designs including linear and logistic regression, mixed effects modeling, and/or Cox proportional hazards
