Are you currently a band 5 or 6 nurse with significant post registration experience in paediatric nursing and looking for a challenging new experience? The OPAT team are looking for a Band 6 nurse to join their service which offers intravenous antimicrobial therapy to patients who no longer require in-patient care. The OPAT service aims to provide a service managing children on IV antimicrobial therapy either in their own homes, or in an ambulant care setting. As a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse within the OPAT team, you will contribute to co-ordinating the specialist OPAT service in a variety of settings ensuring the quality-of-care provision to children. You will be responsible for monitoring patient condition, administering treatment and communicating change to the OPAT Nurse Manager or Multi-Disciplinary team. It is essential that you have a current UK driving licence and access to a car you can use for work. You will need enthusiasm, motivation, ability to work both within a team and autonomously, and have a commitment to providing a high standard of clinical practice and care to our patients. The OPAT service needs a band 6 nurse who always maintains professionalism and who takes pride in the care they give to the patients and their families, as well as being dedicated to their own personal and professional development and the development of the service.
Job Responsibility
Provide and coordinate skilled nursing care in line with the NMC Code of Conduct
Support the development of nursing practice through supervision and teaching of junior staff
Act as an advocate for patients
Plan, implement and evaluate care for an assigned patient group, using effective prioritisation and delegation
Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver seamless, holistic care
Support the ward manager in upholding clinical governance standards
Deputise for the ward manager at meetings as required
Act as a role model and leader to junior staff
Requirements
Degree or Diploma Level Education as Registered Nurse (RN Child, RNLD or RSCN)
Willingness to undertake Leadership/Management training
Teaching, Mentoring and Assessors qualification
Current registration with NMC
Relevant post registration qualification as required for speciality
Staffing experience within paediatrics and evidence of competencies achieved to move to a Band 6, eg completion of Competency Pathway at SC NHS FT
Mentoring experience with nursing students and one-to one teaching of junior staff
Ability to demonstrate a commitment to professional development
Role of Senior Staff Nurse and ability to work within and lead a team
Understanding of the clinical governance agenda
Experience of undertaking the audit process
Health, Safety and Risk awareness
Awareness of resource management
Health & Safety Safe Practices e.g. Moving and Handling, Sharps, COSHH, Information Governance
Responsibility for safe practices of Infection Control principles
Principles of Safeguarding of children & training to Level 3
