As a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer at Boston Dynamics, you will play a pivotal role in the evolution of Atlas, our advanced humanoid robot. You will join a fast-moving team tackling the challenges of integrating high-performance wireless connectivity and ensuring electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) within a densely packed and complex electromechanical system.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the design of electrical schematics and layouts incorporating power, analog, microprocessor, radio modules, and antennas
Own the EMI/EMC and RF validation lifecycle, including testing strategy, contribute significantly to regulatory compliance efforts (e.g. Intentional Radiator, Immunity/Susceptibility), and manage relationships with 3rd party test labs
Define and drive design architecture, component strategy, and design validation plans for complex, multi-board systems
Work cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to design and optimize radio/antenna performance in a challenging, metal-rich mechanical environment
Debug electrical and radio communication issues to root cause and develop improvements
Utilize Linux command-line tools and scripting (Python/Bash/etc.) to configure radios/networks, execute tools, and automate testing
Provide mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers on best practices, design methods, and development workflows
Develop comprehensive design documents and test plans/reports
Requirements:
7+ years of proficiency / demonstrated architectural leadership designing PCBAs incorporating wireless communications subsystems using Altium or similar CAD tools
Expert grasp of EMI/EMC mitigation strategies in high-speed/high-power environments, and a deep knowledge of RF fundamentals (link budget, antenna tuning, coexistence)
Proficiency with Linux command line and computer networking concepts
Strong knowledge of PCB fabrication, assembly, and signal integrity
Competency with Python, LabView, and/or MATLAB
BS or MS (preferred) in Electrical Engineering or related field
Nice to have:
Experience with RF/EMI simulation tools such as ANSYS HFSS
